Wine Making Philosophy

When it comes to making wine our philosophy is straightforward; we believe that the ultimate quality of the wine is determined in the vineyard and that the role of the winemaker is to allow the grapes to reveal themselves in a regionally expressive manner. As such we have a portfolio of wines that reflect the terroir of the region.

Our wines are made using several state of the art facilities and talented winemakers from Orange and in the nearby Hunter Valley. Winemaking is overseen by Jon Reynolds, a highly experienced winemaker who has extensive experience in making wines from the Orange region.

The size of our vineyards, its varying soils and aspects enable us to select only the best parcels of fruit for Angullong wines. We are driven by a desire to produce premium quality, cutting edge wines that is highly respected by you, our customer, as well as our industry peers.

Wine Range

To ensure choosing your Angullong wine is made simple we have developed two distinct ranges of wine;

Angullong ‘A’ range of wines represents our core range of wines; these include classic cool climate varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, to Verdelho, Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot. These are easy drinking, fresh, fruit driven wines that will appeal to the discerning value-conscious consumer.

Angullong ‘Fossil Hill’ range of wines represents small parcels of outstanding quality premium grapes. These wines display excellent varietal character and individual nuances that are unique to our vineyard site. They are prestigious wines which are ready to drink now or, for the true connoisseur, would benefit from cellaring. The wines exhibit great balance and elegance while being able to accompany a range of different foods.

Fossil Hill also tells a story about the geology of the region. Over 450 million years ago during the Ordovician period, the area around Angullong was covered with sea and inhabited by some of the earliest forms of life. Over the course of time the sea has disappeared and the limestone that was laid down during the Ordovician period is now covered with basalt loam from nearby Mt Canobolas. Evidence of these creatures remains in the limestone as fossils which can be found at Angullong.
