2016 Angullong Merlot

92/100 2019 Wine Companion.  Orange is gaining a enviable reputation for producing Merlot. The Angullong Merlot is generous with redcurrant and mulberry flavours. The oak maturation adds complexity and structure and the dusty tannins make it a great accompaniment to roast meats or mature cheeses. This is a wine to enjoy now or cellar up to around 2021.

92/100   This is only light to medium-bodied, but has the gently savoury/spicy overtones to its cassis fruit that I see as merlot varietal character. This is a good start, the decision to bypass new or young oak equally wise. Angullong bolted out of the starting gates with sauvignon blanc, and this is from the same school of thought.” 2019 Wine Companion, James Halliday
