Cooler climate Shiraz tends to display more spice and pepper compared to that of the warmer regions. Our 2017 Angullong Shiraz is exactly that. It is a flavoursome wine with ripe dark forest berry flavours with a spicy complexity and lingering smooth tannins. The is a wine to enjoy now, or let mature in the bottle over the next five or so years.
“It all slips down pretty easily it has to be said.” The Winefront, Campbell Mattinson.
“The wines from Angullong are always solid. This Shiraz is no different. Spicy from the outset as blackberry fruit seeks some wriggle room to shine. Cracked pepper and wood spices keep it in check. The bright and energetic acidity to close calls for tapas and barbecued food.” QWINE, Aug 2019
“Dark fruits, blackberry and pepper. Balanced but with real body and structure.” Daryl Fisher, National Liquor News
“A good mouth-filling Shiraz. A bell curve of flavour intensifies across the palate. Nice grip of tannin but all in balance.” Michael Park, National Liquor News
“…aromas of a berry basket full of red and black fruits which was a good introduction to the flavours. Cherries and blackberries are juicy and fresh on the palate as well, and hints of black pepper form part of the savouriness of this just medium bodied wine. It certainly has a high drinkability factor and for the price, it’s a winner for sure…” Words from a Wineglass, Aug 2019
“… The nose, initially subdued, soon unfolds layers of ripe redberries / blueberries with a backbone of black pepper and mixed spice. These cool-climate varietal attributes are tightly wound around a core of grippy acid and tannins. The 14% Alc warmth facilitates the ripe & fulsome palate journey. It is well-assembled, textural sleeper of a Shiraz team which will continue to develop and please over the next few years. This 2017 Angullong Shiraz is a well-priced winter warmer winner from Ben Crossing and the Angullong team.” The Grape Hunter, Aug 2019
