“This current Angullong Sauvignon Blanc shows the hallmarks of cool climate freshness and acid grip. The aromas and flavours deliver citrus, herbal and almond profiles. It shows an intriguing combination of sweet and sourness underpinned by a degree of tart savouriness. It is tightly structured but still allows the ripe fruit component to linger at the back palate. This youthful Angullong Sauvignon Blanc from Ben Crossing’s team benefits from food accompaniment. We had ours with a cold roast chicken and mixed greens salad.” The Grape Hunter, 2019
“90 POINTS… showing plenty of life. Refreshingly crisp. Pineapple sage, lemongrass, passion fruit and lemony tang all contribute to an energetic wine yearning for a place in the sunshine.” QWINE, Feb 2019
“Quite aromatic, passionfruit for sure, maybe a tad lemony… Lively, fresh palate with plenty of flavour. Passionfruit again, a hint of, sort of, snow pea character (definitely not an under-ripe character) and some nice gentle acidity. The surprise for me was, it finishes dry with just a hint of sweetness… will certainly have a friend in Thai food.” Words from a Wineglass, Feb 2019
“…dominated by fresh, zesty flavours of passionfruit, but with plenty of palate structure providing interest and substance. I wrote recently that the best Australian wines from this variety came from the Adelaide Hills and Orange. This wine certainly vindicates that claim.” PS News, John Rozentals, Mar 2019
“… bright, vibrant and slightly green-edged in the glass. On the nose, there are typical tropical fruit characters but once on the palate, guava, passionfruit and pineapple emerge before natural acidity tightens the finish and ensures a lingering crispness to the finale. I really enjoy a sauvie that isn’t overly sweet and flabby, and the Angullong certainly fits the bill.” Sunshine Coast Daily, Travis Schultz, Mar 2019
The Angullong property has been in the Crossing family for close to 70 years, with the vineyards planted in 1998.
Orange is a unique region, being delineated by the 600 metre contour around Mount Canobolas. Ranging from 600 metres to over 1000 metres, the region is distinctly cool climate.
Every 100 meters in elevation the temperature decreases roughly one degree. The Angullong vineyard produces sauvignon blanc that shows regional cool climate finesse with a balanced ripeness.
Our vineyard sits within the undulating hills above the Belubula River. The contours and slopes allow for the cooler air to drain away from the vines, giving us protection from frost and allowing excellent sunlight exposure for ripening.
